1952 - The William F. and Winifred (Winnie/Wini) Cody House, 1950 East Desert Palms Drive, Palm Springs CA. Commissioned 1947.

 

Designed by renowned Mid-Century Modern Architect William F. Cody, FAIA as his private family residence, this iconic masterpiece is the epitome of a postwar modernist building.

MATERIALS

Built with steel post and beam construction, the Cody Residence incorporates a wide range of materials and textures; steel, glass, adobe, and wood paneling; melding its existence into the private environment of mature and intentionally placed creosote and organ pipe cactus. The inside boasts Douglas fir Tongue and Groove ceilings, cedar walls, and Italian marble and granite.

 

FLOORPLAN ARTICULATION

All interior spaces are connected to the exterior by use of multi-level shallow steps, defining elevation changes and outdoor vignettes.

 

PROGRAM

The home offers a Principal Bedroom, a Guest Wing, an Office, a hidden Powder Room and a Semi-attached Casita with its own Cath and Living Area.

 

The property was meticulously and thoughtfully updated between 1990 and 1992 by architectr FRANK URRUTIA, who worked alongside Cody from 1969-1974.
